Thieves seem to be targeting Louis Vuitton shoppers.
Local 2 first told you about a purse theft on Tuesday. Authorities say a couple had just bought a Louis Vuitton bag at the Galleria mall. Once they left the mall, they drove 30 miles to eat dinner in Cypress. When they left the restaurant, they found their vehicle broken into and their new nearly $3,000 purchase gone.
On Wednesday another viewer contacted Local 2, saying the same crime happened to her.
Pat Ashley said, “I never would have thought someone would follow me.”
Ashley went to the Louis Vuitton in the Galleria to pick up a purse that was being repaired and while she was there, she treated herself to a smaller $900 dollar purse. She tells Local 2 she went to a nearby restaurant afterward to eat some lunch and valet parked her SUV.
She said when she was done with her meal and ready to leave a valet driver told her she wasn't going to like what had happened to her vehicle while she was eating.
Ashley explained, “We came over here and the glass was broken and it was all inside.”
She said her passenger-side window had been broken and her two Louis Vuitton purses gone.
“Usually when I purchase something like that I will take it in with me and since my windows are so dark and I have the cover, I didn't think anyone would look in,” she said.
She said her vehicle was in view the entire time she was eating, so the thieves had to have worked quickly.
Another viewer contacted Local 2 Wednesday afternoon and said the same thing happened to them in March.
Houston police say never to keep anything of value in plain view and always drive straight home after an expensive purchase. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is handling the case that ended in Cypress and the Houston Police Department is taking care of the other two investigations.
